Lowboards: Vintage TV Furniture in Teak, Walnut and Rosewood
A Lowboard is the low piece of furniture beneath the television, and hardly any vintage piece fits so naturally into modern living rooms. At Hauptstadt Möblerei, you will find a rotating selection of vintage lowboards: the mid-century lowboard in teak with sliding doors, the walnut lowboard from the 1960s, the rosewood lowboard from Denmark, low dressers and sideboardsthat are suitable as TV furniture. All restored in our Berlin workshop.
Lowboards by style
- mid-century lowboard: Teak or rosewood, sliding doors, slender legs. The classic TV furniture piece. See Mid Century.
- Lowboard with drawers: For remote controls, cables and games.
- Low sideboard: Many low sideboards pieces from the 1950s and 1960s work as lowboards.
- Record player cabinet and TV dresser: Originally built for record players and tube televisions, now with modern interiors.
Why choose a vintage lowboard?
Televisions are replaced every few years, but a teak lowboard lasts. It easily supports large screens, provides space for a receiver and console, and looks good even without a television. Many pieces have open backs or ventilation slots for routing cables.
Used lowboards, restored
We inspect sliding doors and drawers, treat the surfaces and replace missing handles. Photos from all sides, dimensions and a condition description are provided for every piece. Taller pieces under highboards and dressers.

Frequently asked questions about lowboards
How wide should a lowboard be for the television?
Wider than the screen, so the image looks balanced. The dimensions are listed for each piece.
Can an old lowboard support a large television?
Yes, solid wood and veneered panels from the 1950s to the 1970s support considerably more than modern televisions weigh.
Can I route cables through the lowboard?
Usually yes, many have open backs or ventilation slots. You can see whether this is the case for a particular piece in the photos of the back.
What is the difference between a lowboard and a sideboard?
The lowboard is lower, usually knee-high, while the sideboard is about hip-high.
