Console tables: antique, vintage, and mid-century for hallways and walls
A console is the table that stands against the wall: narrow, often with a marble top, the first eye-catcher in the hallway and a place for keys, mail, and flowers. At Hauptstadt Möblerei, you will find a changing selection of console tables from all eras: the Baroque console with a gilded frame, the Wilhelminian-era console with marble, the English console made of mahogany, the Art Deco console table with high-gloss veneer, and the mid-century console made of teak. All restored in our Berlin workshop.

Antique or vintage console?
Antique consoles from the Baroque, Neoclassical, and Wilhelminian eras are ornate pieces with carvings, gilding, and marble tops; see Baroque and antiques. English consoles in the Chippendale- and Regency styles are slimmer and made of mahogany. Mid-century consoles made of teak are lightweight and fit in narrow hallways; see Mid Century.
Which console is right for my hallway?
Consoles are usually 25 to 40 cm deep, leaving the passage clear. They are 75 to 90 cm high, and a mirror above makes the hallway look larger. The dimensions are listed for each piece.

Frequently asked questions about consoles
What is the difference between a console and a sideboard?
A console is narrow and open, usually without storage space. The sideboard is deeper and has doors and drawers.
Does a wall console need to be secured?
True wall consoles with only two front legs do. Freestanding console tables do not.
Does a Baroque console fit in a modern apartment?
As a statement piece in the hallway, it is a classic combination: gold console, white wall, a large mirror.
Can a console serve as a desk?
For a laptop, yes, if it is at least 40 cm deep.
